Multimedia Murals: Iconic Re-Interpretation

These large scales mix media art murals are abstract re-interpretations of iconic works from artists like Picasso, Chirico, Duchamp, Matisse, Diego Rivera, and Michelangelo. The students created the original artists’ piece through contemporary line strokes in acrylic paint, charcoal, markers, etc. illustrating the expression of each artwork.
Multimedia Design: Conceptual Collages

These collages represent the students’ conceptual design process of current studio design projects. All works have a digitally printed collage element with 3-dimensional mixed media elements layered over top of the collage.

Over the course of one month, advanced students in prof. Mia Cinelli’s A-S 540 Publication Design Class wrote and designed their own cookbooks, ranging from practical kitchen guides to ‘recipes’ full of humorous pop-culture references. These cookbooks were required to be a minimum of 48 pages long, including all necessary parts of a standard cookbook. For this exhibition, some students have chosen to exhibit select spreads from their cookbooks, while others have put their entire books on display.
Art Rocks

In Traditional Chinese Culture, stones or rocks with interesting shapes and colors have been important. Also called “Philosophers’ Stones” or “Ugly Stones,” they are often used for meditation— their owners studying their surfaces and structures. Their unique asymmetry and “awkwardness” is seen as a natural and powerful manifestation of qi, the energy that is everywhere, in both animate and inanimate.
Culture Chests: Identity and Social Justice

These Culture Chests represent the students’ social identities and how they’ve impacted their worldview and behavior- their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, religion, social class, nationality, age, size, etc. These items represent the salient aspects of their cultural identities, their personal journeys and histories, and thoughts, opinions, feelings, and questions about social justice in their own lives and in the United States.
